Thank YOU!

Thank you to our new Baby Fresh families! You made our first week here in sunny California so great. We just finished putting the last of this week's requests into the freezer and will be making deliveries Thursday - Saturday, with out of state orders going out Friday morning. We truly had a blast cooking, especially with the success of our newest flavor, Pear-a-mint! Please send all feedback, good and bad, to babyfreshorganics@yahoo.com. Thanks again!

We're going stainless (steel that is)!

While non-stick cookware is convenient and makes for easier clean-up, we here at Baby Fresh have been seeing a lot of unattractive information about the way these pots are made to be non-stick. It requires manufacturers to use lots of chemicals such as perflurooctanoic acid (PCOA) to create the surface. When heated, PCOA is highly toxic and releases carcinogens into the air and into the food. Our babies deserve better. Today, Baby Fresh switched to all stainless steel cookware! As always, we want to make sure your baby receives only pure, organic products. No thanks carcinogens! Read more:

What's a Serving?

Many of us wonder if our baby is eating too much or not enough. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a "serving" for babies and toddlers is one tablespoon per year of age. However, babies under one are still receiving the majority of their nutrition from breast milk or formula. When introducing babies to solids, it is important to do so slowly. Start with one meal a day and work up to three. At first, one serving of our food may seem like more than enough. By your baby's first birthday, a meal will consist of two to three cubes. The great thing about our portion size is that it allows you to make just the right amount. If you offer your baby one cube and they seem to still be hungry, just quickly defrost another cube. Our portions help ensure that you are neither wasting food or trying to offer more than needed just because it's there.

One cube of our organic baby food offers two tablespoons of nutrition. To help you keep track, 2 1/2 produce cubes would fulfill your babies "5 a day" at one year. A cube of stage 3 food is considered one serving veggie and one serving protein. However, all babies are different. Please remember that more important than how much your baby is eating, diversity is key! Eat the rainbow! If you serve green at lunch, serve orange at dinner. This is how "greenies" and "fruities" were born. Feel free to email us for more information.

Fresh Basil

We here at Baby Fresh love basil. It adds an amazing flavor to foods, especially those for our wee ones that are void of salt and sugar. However, basil is more than a flavor enhancement. Basil has been proven to protect against unwanted bacterial growth. Essential oil of basil, obtained from its leaves, has demonstrated the ability to inhibit several species of pathogenic bacteria that have become resistant to commonly used antibiotic drugs. In a study published in the July 2003 issue of the Journal of Microbiology Methods, essential oil of basil was even found to inhibit strains of bacteria from the genera Staphylococcus, Enterococcus and Pseudomonas, all of which are not only widespread, but now pose serious treatment difficulties because they have developed a high level of resistance to treatment with antibiotic drugs. Basil is not only a palate-widening, tasty addition to our products, it's also an amazing herb that can help keep you baby free from unwanted bacterias!

Baby Fresh Overview

Baby Fresh
Wholesome Organic Baby Food

Baby Fresh is now looking for new families!

Baby Fresh is a husband and wife team who are committed to giving California’s babies the best fresh, organic and interesting meals. Darren has a culinary degree from CIA, Katie studied nutrition, and together, they have more than 20 years experience in the restaurant business. When their daughter, Annie, was born last January, they realized they never wanted to give her less than the best. Unfortunately, the baby food options they found were less than stellar. Even with the organic options, the first ingredient is often water, and the ingredients bland. The canning process strips away nutrients and changes the flavor. They want Annie to appreciate food the way nature intended. Fresh locally grown produce, healing herbs and spices, hearty oatmeals, and fruit sweetened yogurts. No added sugars, salts, starches or preservatives. Food is their passion and they want the same for their daughter. So Baby Fresh was born.

Baby Fresh began in Phoenix serving friends and aquaintances who were too busy to cook for their babies themselves. My making donations, we are able to buy more supplies and products, serving more families. Our family has recently relocated to Pasadena and we hope to share our passion for feeding babies the best possible product with people here. We use all organic ingredients and our food is freshly prepared with a commitment to excellence. After preparation, your baby’s food is immediately frozen. When it’s time to eat, simply defrost the individual portions as needed. When kept frozen, our products are guaranteed for 3 months; once defrosted, use within 3 days. Your baby will thank you for offering up such delicious meals, and you will know that you are giving him the nutrition he needs.

In an effort to preserve the environment we do try to make deliveries to the same areas on the same days. We will all work together to use as little fuel as possible.

Sample Menu:
*Please note that we strive to use only local, organic produce. If a product is not available locally, we will either remove it from our menu or find a comparable product. We will not compromise quality for availability. Therefore, menu items will change as needed*

STAGE ONE (4-6 months):
*It is important to introduce fruits and vegetables one at a time to help in identifying allergies. Although the risk of being allergic to fresh, organic produce is significantly less than conventional jarred foods, we still recommend this step. This is also a good way to identify your baby’s favorite foods which is helpful in stage two and three.

Peas
Carrots
Apples
Pears
Sweet Potatoes
Squash
Green Beans
Peaches
Organic crushed oats

STAGE TWO (6-8 months):
*Once your baby has mastered single ingredients, it is important to start expanding their palate. Our stage two foods introduce herbs, spices and more exotic foods to keep baby’s interest peaked. Please note that yogurts are made from cow’s milk. If that is not agreeable for your child, substitutions can be made. We also keep everything vegetarian, soy-free and wheat-free at this stage. Many introduce meat at 6 months; however breast milk and formula both supply plenty of protein as do our yogurts.

Fruits and Veggies:
Squash with sage
Peas with mint
Green Beans and Basil
Apples, Sweet Potatoes and Nutmeg
Pears, Apples and Cinnamon
Peaches and Bananas
Zucchini, Asparagus, and Bell Pepper
Spinach and Potatoes
Peas and Carrots

Oatmeals:
Apple Cinnamon
Blueberry
Peach
Banana

Yogurts:
Plain
Blueberry
Kiwi
Peach
Cherry Vanilla

STAGE THREE (8-12 months):
*Meats are now being introduced. We only use the best organic, free range products available. The only dietary restrictions at this time are nuts, strawberries, egg whites and citrus. Products containing wheat, dairy, corn and soy are identified. Concierge clients can add or remove any ingredients they wish. As always, no added salts, sugars, additives or preservatives.

Chicken, Sweet Potatoes and Corn *contains corn*
Meatloaf
White Fish Stir Fry
Wild Salmon, Couscous and Veggies *contains wheat*
Quinoa, Beans and Scallions
Turkey and Green Beans
Broccoli and Cheese *contains dairy*
Creamed Spinach *contains dairy*
Orzo and Cheese *contains wheat and dairy*

Also available in Stage Three:
Greenies!!!
-This is our seasonal collection of everything green in season. Asparagus, Green Beans, Spinach, Broccoli, etc…by combining them together you can be assured that your child is getting a wide range of nutrients.

Fruities!!!
-The fruit version of greenies. Kiwis, mangoes, bananas, grapes, plums, apricots, etc………...

*All greenies and fruities are tasted and approved by Annie. If she doesn’t like it, we won’t pass it on. Pineapples, tomatoes, and citrus are best avoided until age one due to acidity in the tummy. If you have a persnickety greenie eater…try 2 cubes fruities to 1 cube greenies. Works like a charm. Also, if meat eating is a trial (as it was for us), use a favorite stage one food and mix it with a stage three. Over time do less stage one and more stage three. Concierge clients, we can customize this for you so they are already mixed together.
